Re: Crockett and his players
I have a hard time seeing how Crockett is sooo bad. He coached the 91 Appy JV to an undefeated season. He also coached football. Coach Crockett is a different person, but his personality and coaching abilities are unique. I would have to say that he was my favorite teacher at Appy. John isn't running the players off, IMO. He's just letting them know that it's his show and his rules. You can like it or leave. John will continue to do fine and be his self. With or without his "superstars".

Brad was POY too, remember that???

Sure do, and no one is on here just a few months later saying what a terrible basketball player he is either. Unlike the COY.
Re: Crockett and his players
Crockett shouldn't say my way or the highway. He should understand PV is a football school. Always has been and always will be. He should understand this and take what he gets and have fun with it. If he coached at Council or something I could understand him being this way but most players at PV probably aren't diehard basketball guys. It is probably something just to do between football and track.
Re: Crockett and his players
I agree with you about that. But John is John. You know how some people are. They know the potential of their players and sometimes it takes some "tough love" to bring this talent to the surface. John has very good abilities. I hope he does well to show the quiters what they missed and could have been a part of.
Re: Crockett and his players
I remember in the 70's, P.V. had the best basketball program around under the coaching of Burrell Paye. He had players like Joe Berta, Barry Hamler, etc. Powell Valley never really became a football school until the arrival of coach Bolling. What I am trying to say is the the big blue machine may have rusted a little bit, but nothing a little bit of oil won't fix. Crockett is a good coach and as the coach, he must maintain the discipline; otherwise, you will have what happened with Preston Mitchell years, start all over again. All this reminds me of what has recently happened at Philadelphia.....remember T.O. and the Eagles?? He thought he couldn't be stopped, I guess Andy and the staff put a stop to that.

Yeah we would hate for Powell Valley to actually start winning again lol.
Seriously, what was so bad that happend when Preston Mitchell was there? Being on the other side of some ass kickings, it sure looked like everything was peachy keen on their side. They were a very disciplined basketball team too.
Re: Crockett and his players
still havent figured out why the mitchell kid quit..?
Re: Crockett and his players
Mitchel quit so he can work on getting better at football and stronger, and he said he wasnt having fun playing basketball. Cedric has been working out with murphy every day this week.
Re: Crockett and his players
I agree with you dawg, I can remember when PV was a basketball school under Burrell Paye. He wouldn't settle for anything less. I've seen him hit players over the head with a clipboard.
